Gloria and Eduardo Arquimbau
Gloria and Eduardo Arquimbau started dancing tango with the famous Francisco Canaro Orchestra, and have conquered audiences from all over the world. From 1985 to 1992, they performed to critical acclaim in Central America, Europe, Japan, and the United States in the show Tango Argentino, and in 1990 in Forever Tango. Legendary masters, choreographers and dancers, Gloria and Eduardo Arquimbau shine year after year in
various shows and festivals, and for many years they have been one of the most popular tango dancing couples in the world.
They made their debut in 1960 with a tango show at the Cine Teatro Opera. That same year, they began appearing in Canaro’s show, with which they went on their first tour of Japan. They performed with the critically acclaimed musical Tango Argentino from 1985 to 1992. They were choreographers and headliners of the original cast of Forever Tango in San Francisco from 1994 to 1995. With the Japan tours of their shows Tango, Tango and Corazon de Tango, they paved the way for many shows that followed.
But Eduardo is also one of the great milongueros of his generation – the men who grew up dancing in the milongas in the early-mid 1950s. He is one of the teachers mainly responsible for the worldwide popularity of "club" style tango (or milonguero style, confiteria style, close embrace, apilado). Eduardo has taught this style, which is once again the predominant style in today's crowded milongas of Buenos Aires, all over the world. Eduardo and Gloria are the only living masters of the orillero style, and their performances are thrilling.
During their long career, they have shared the stage with legends such as Roberto Goyeneche, Alba Solís, the Orquesta de Osvaldo Piro, Mariano Mores, Virginia Luque, Los Cinco Latinos, María Marta Serra Lima, Charles Aznavur and Richard Claiderman. Futhermore, they were featured in shows such as Tango Argentino, Mariano Mores’ show, Tanguísimo, and others such as Tango Tango and Súper Tango.
Together, Eduardo and Gloria Arquimbau have appeared on Argentinian and international television, in the 1985 motion picture El exilio de Gardel, and have worked internationally as teachers – opening their own school and producing influential teaching videos as early as 1985 and 1987 – and as choreographers and directors.
