Roberto Alvarez's
Color Tango Orchestra

The Color Tango Orchestra was established in 1989, when Roberto Álvarez (first bandoneón and main arranger of the Osvaldo Pugliese Orchestra) decided to establish a new orchestra and call upon prominent arrangers and composers. Since then, its artistic activities have steadily increased, with 6 CDs and numerous international tours to Europe, Asia and the USA. It has participated in major tango festivals around the globe. In Argentina, Color Tango has performed on several National Radio programs, on television (ATC), and at the major theatres of the country.
The style of the Color Tango Orchestra is the ideal continuation of the so–called Decareana School, which developed in the mid–1920s and was marked by great masters such as Alfredo Gobbi and especially Osvaldo Pugliese. Romantic and full of expressiveness, this movement dominated tango in the 1940s with arrangements both agile and open to innovation. At the same time, Color Tango incorporated new compositions into the repertoire of the orchestra. These help to produce a greater expressive maturity, but at the same time conserve a continuity along the aesthetic path which began at the very origins of tango.
