The show I Tango explores the personal relationship each performer has with the sensual and beautiful art form known and loved throughout the world as "tango."

Artistic Director Alicia Cruzado has assembled this special group of artists with the particular instruction for each individual to find the essence of what tango means to them in a deeply personal context, both in music and dance.  With the assistance of the talented lighting designer Anibal Rea, light, color, texture and dimension highlight the beautiful varieties of emotions, connections and relationships between the performers.  Each of the six couples will perform two solos as well as take part in five ensemble numbers.

Alicia Cruzado’s choreographic ideas are fresh and bold; each of the highly distinctive performance numbers explores the fusions that occur when the artists mix the spirit and soul of tango and Argentina with those of their own origins – the US, Brazil, Peru, and Mexico.

The music plays an essential part in these explorations.  The selections range from the timeless compositions of Osvaldo Pugliese to Music Director Roberto Álvarez´s own beautiful pieces like Chacabuqueando and Maypa.

The dancers will share their unique I Tango explorations with each other and with the audience, interweaving tango’s classic elements with cutting edge innovation to bring you a dynamic and highly entertaining evening.

There will also be a special appearance of the American Ballroom Theater Youth Performance, featuring performers from the popular documentary Mad Hot Ballroom.  These talented kids will share their own interpretation of tango with the audience.

The performance is made possible by the Argentine Tango Society.
